MANILA, Philippines (July 2026) — Imagine plugging in an electric vehicle and having enough juice to get back on the road in less time than it takes to finish a cup of coffee. The wait for faster charging might be over thanks to the Shell Triple 10 Challenge Concept Car, a breakthrough vehicle designed to prove that electric travel can be more efficient without needing massive batteries.

The concept car recently hit a milestone that could change how Pinoys look at range anxiety: a 10 percent to 80 percent charge in exactly nine minutes and 54 seconds. This was achieved using a standard 175kW charger, showing that the technology is already compatible with the kind of infrastructure available today.

Efficiency over battery size

One of the biggest hurdles for electric vehicles has always been the weight and cost of battery packs. The Triple 10 Challenge flips the script by focusing on energy efficiency rather than just building bigger batteries. The vehicle achieves 10 km per kWh, which is over 30 percent more efficient than many electric cars currently on the market.

By being more efficient, the car also leaves a smaller mark on the planet. It has an estimated 10-tonne lifecycle carbon footprint, representing about 50 percent lower lifecycle emissions than many conventional battery electric vehicles used in Europe.

Keeping the motor cool

The secret to these performance gains is the Shell Recharge thermal fluid. This innovation allows for immersive cooling of the battery and powertrain. This simplified cooling setup helps improve charging speed, reduces the overall weight of the battery pack, and lowers production costs using parts that are already commercially available.

The announcement also signals a change in how the company brands its electric future. All electric vehicle solutions, including charging stations, thermal fluids, and battery technology, are now unified under the Shell Recharge name. This integrated ecosystem is designed to make the transition to electric driving simpler for everyone.
