The moment Stephen Curry became the first player in NBA history to reach 4,000 career three-pointers is about to get the biggest screen treatment possible. Disney has confirmed an IMAX-exclusive documentary, “Portrait of an Artist: Stephen Curry,” that chronicles one historic night at Chase Center. The film is set to hit IMAX theaters worldwide on October 9, 2026.

One record-breaking night

Curry entered the home game against the Sacramento Kings needing just two threes to reach the unprecedented milestone of 4,000 career three-pointers. He did it on a March 13 game, and the Warriors went on to win 130-104. It was the first time in league history any player reached that total, a mark the four-time champion and two-time MVP keeps extending.

Basketball as art

The documentary weaves together Curry’s generational artistry with perspectives from other creative voices, including Viola Davis, Rick Rubin, Patti Smith and Jon Batiste. Each reflects on how Curry’s singular vision permanently transformed the game. In his own announcement, Curry said that “being compared to an artist is something I take with a lot of humility,” while adding that creativity has always been at the heart of how he plays.

A state-of-the-art production

The project used 21 IMAX-certified cameras to capture the urgency and emotion around that single day and single game, according to the filmmakers. It is directed by Religion of Sports co-founder Gotham Chopra and produced by IMAX, Religion of Sports and Unanimous Media, the company Curry co-founded with Erick Peyton.
