Two Really Enchanted Evenings You Will Get from South Pacific In Concert Sept 12 & 19

sp3On a limited two shows only, Resorts World Manila brings to us a beloved broadway classic by Rodgers and Hammerstein’s South Pacific In Concert happening on September 12 and 19 at 8pm of the Newport Performing Arts Theater (NPAT). Featuring world class performers led by Joanna Ampil, Jon Meer Vera Perez, Mark Bautista and Ima Castro  this production is a sure showstopper. They will be backed up by the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of conductor Rodel Colmenar.

Based on David Ives’ concert adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize winning novel Tales from the South Pacific by James A. Michener, the concert offers all the original music that helps tell a story of love mired with issues of prejudice and race all set on a paradise island in the South Pacific during World War II.

To be joined by 20 of the country’s finest musical talents including Michael Williams, Red Concepcion, Hans Eckstein, Jef Flores, Rhenwyn Gabalonzo, Chesko Rodriguez, Nar Cabico and Caissa Borromeo among others,  the entire production will be steared by veteran stage performer and director Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo who also happens to be a good friend. She was excited to share with me that it was her idea to cast almost half of her fellow castmates at the recently successful run of  “Kung Paano Ako Naging Leading Lady” musical where she portrayed Madre De Dios, the leader of Fuerza Pilipinas. Thank you for also including the fiesty Kayumanggilas hunks, Ms. Menchu! ☺

The show marks the first time that a concert adaptation of a major musical will be done in the Philippines. Combining the state-of-the-art technical features of the NPAT with the cast’s impressive musical talents, the production offers a new approach to watching stage musicals.
sp4Former Ms Saigon lead, Joanna Ampil  is likewise excited that this kind of a presentation is something new to our local audience. “It will still feature drama, dialogues and other emotions involved in how the story goes, but at the same time there’s no elaborate props and background. The audience will be treated to a different kind of theater high!”

So if this medium works out, expect more of these kinds of presentations to hit the stage.

Rodgers & Hammerstein’s South Pacific in Concert is part of RWM’s 6th anniversary celebration, which offers guests a serving of knockout concerts, exclusive events, and big promos all crammed into three months of non-stop thrills beginning last August.
sp5Don’t miss out on this production which showcases the best of the best broadway and musical artists our stage has ever produced. Score your tickets now since this treat will only run on two consecutive weekends.
