Vice Ganda re-enacts Miss Universe blunder thru announcing a wrong winner in Tawag ng Tanghalan

In Saturday’s “Tawag ng Tanghalan” segment, comedian and “It’s Showtime” host Vice Ganda announced the wrong daily champion of the amateur singing contest.

According to the report of ABS-CBN News, after reading the envelope, the 39-year-old Vice Ganda said that the winner was Jade Hipe, a mother from Davao City who performed a soaring cover of Rachelle Ann Go’s “From the Start.”

It was a mistake, however, as the judges gave defending champion Mary Gidget dela Llana a score of 92.4 percent to hand the Laguna lass her seventh win in a row.

“Kasi ang alam kong pangalan niya Gidget. Kaya nung nakita kong may Mary, sabi ko ay bago pero Mary Gidget pala siya,” Vice Ganda explained.

The blunder immediately drew comparisons with American host Steve Harvey, who mistakenly announced Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez as the winner of the recent Miss Universe pageant instead of Filipina beauty queen Pia Wurtzbach.

Vice Ganda also took to Twitter to again apologize for his mistake. “Sorry po! Lutang pa! Waaaaaahhhhh!!!! Sorry!” he wrote.

The 20-year-old Dela Llana, who has already secured a place in the semi-finals of the competition and will return on the “Tawag ng Tanghalan” stage on Monday in a bid to record her eight win.
