Classes in at least five areas are off for Saturday, September 5 as the southwest monsoon keeps soaking Luzon into the weekend. The local governments that called cancellations on Friday evening are mostly shifting to alternative delivery mode, so face-to-face sessions are suspended but lessons continue through other means.
Where classes are suspended on Sept 5
As of ABS-CBN News’ running list, updated Friday evening, these areas have suspended classes for Saturday:
| Area | Level | Mode |
|---|---|---|
| Caloocan City, Metro Manila | All levels | Alternative delivery, public and private |
| Navotas City, Metro Manila | All levels | Alternative delivery, public and private |
| Calatagan, Batangas | All levels | Alternative delivery, public and private |
| Nasugbu, Batangas | All levels | Alternative delivery, public and private |
| Laguna | College level | Alternative delivery, public and private |
Under alternative delivery mode, students shift to modular, online, or blended lessons instead of reporting to school buildings. The list is partial and may grow as more towns and cities announce their decisions for the weekend.
Why the rains are hanging around
The cancellations trace back to the lingering southwest monsoon, which has kept repeated rounds of rain falling over western Luzon since late August. Even after Tropical Storm Pilandok left the Philippine area of responsibility, the habagat has stayed active enough to keep weather advisories in force.
The September 5 suspensions extend a string of daily cancellation advisories issued through the week. In parts of the capital and the south, the rain has also arrived alongside lingering transboundary haze that pushed air quality into the unhealthy range, an extra reason schools have chosen not to hold face-to-face sessions.
Watch for updates
Announcements on Saturday classes are still coming in from local governments and school divisions. Because a weekend class day is not uniform across the country, families should confirm with their own school or city hall rather than assume a suspension applies to them.
