Wikang Yaman: Kuwento at Kuwenta [event]

If you remember “Alamat ng Pinya,” “Ang Kwento ni Juan Tamad,” and other stories that all of us batang Pinoy grew up with, you’re in for a good news!

Spearheaded by the Department of English of the University of Santo Tomas (UST) and members of the UST English Language Studies Society (UST-ELSSOC), the event titled “Wikang Yaman: Kuwento at Kuwenta” or WYKK aims to recognize and celebrate the diverse culture and the beauty of Philippine languages through stimulated storytelling.

Famous Philippine folklores and legends will be showcased by actors who speak fluent Philippine languages (e.g., Cebuano, Ilocano) before translating them to English in line with this year’s theme: “Embracing Languages Through Enchanting Stories,” paving the way for a new and enchanting storytelling event.

The first WYKK event on April 30, 2019 celebrated our indigenous languages in line with the 2019 International Year of Indigenous Languages and aimed to contribute to achieving the objectives of the United Nations’ (UN) Sustainable Development Goals, as well as the UN’s Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
