MANILA, Philippines (April 2026) — If grinding in The Elder Scrolls Online has ever felt like a chore, that might finally change, and you won’t have to pay extra for it.
A major new chapter begins with Season Zero: Dawn and Dusk, now live across PC, Xbox, and PlayStation. It marks the start of a new seasonal format for the long-running MMORPG, bringing fresh content every 90 days, all included for anyone who already owns the game.
Instead of waiting for massive annual expansions, players can now expect regular drops packed with activities, rewards, and system updates that aim to keep Tamriel feeling alive.
A new event zone is coming, and it’s only around for a limited time
The highlight of Season Zero arrives on April 29 with The Night Market, a limited-time event zone set in the Oblivion realm of Fargrave. It will run for seven weeks, ending June 17.
Here, players can align with one of three factions and take on a series of challenging PvE encounters. The more they progress, the more rewards they unlock, including a free in-game home called Night’s Den.
The setup leans heavily into choice and replayability, giving players different ways to experience the same event depending on the faction they support.
Less grind, more control
One of the biggest changes in this update focuses on quality of life.
Season Zero introduces a refreshed version of the Dragonknight class, alongside more than 20 player experience improvements designed to cut down on repetitive tasks. These include faster mount training, easier skill respecs through the UI, and smoother inventory upgrades.
Housing fans also get a boost with increased furnishing limits, giving players more freedom to customize their spaces without hitting frustrating caps.
More class updates and system tweaks are already planned to roll out through 2026 and beyond.
A tougher world for those who want it
For players who feel the game has gotten too easy, a new Challenge Difficulty system is on the way.
Launching June 8, this optional feature introduces four difficulty tiers for overland content. Each tier ramps up the challenge and rewards, offering a more intense experience for those who want to push their builds further.
PvP players are also getting attention this season, with updates like the new Veterancy progression system and continued testing for Cyrodiil campaigns aimed at improving large-scale battles.
A new way to earn rewards just by playing
Season Zero also introduces Tamriel Tomes, a new progression system that reworks how rewards are earned.
It combines daily logins and Endeavors into a single system, letting players unlock currencies, consumables, and collectibles simply by playing. Each season brings its own Tome, with both free and paid reward tracks available.
The idea is simple: give players more flexibility and control over how they earn rewards, instead of locking them into rigid daily tasks.
A new direction for ESO
With Season Zero, the shift is clear. The game is moving away from slow, expansion-driven updates toward a faster, more consistent live-service model.
For longtime players, it means less waiting and fewer grinds. For returning players, it might be the best time to jump back in.
Season Zero: Dawn and Dusk is available now on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation. The Night Market event begins April 29, with more features rolling out throughout the season.
