BGC Carpark marshal changes woman’s tire without complaint [viral]

Mae Young posted the above photo of BGC Carpark marshal S/G Tortosa on her Facebook profile last night after Tortosa went beyond the call of duty and helped her change a flat tire.

The post bore the following caption:

Here’s a true story that happened in BGC earlier tonight.

I hope many will ‘like’ and ‘share’ because it’s one way to reinforce good behaviour 🙂

S/G Tortosa went beyond his call of duty and immediately changed my flat tire when I approached him. He did so without complaining, paying no attention to the buckets he sweat. And all because I asked him if he knew anyone who could help me change my flat tire.

To the people behind BGC car parks, specifically the one across the turf, next to Gram’s Diner, may this post reach you so you can reward exemplary members of your team.

S/G Tortosa, may your kind of selflessness inspire us and remind us that helpful people are around us, all the time

Most of the commenters praised Tortosa, however Buddy Cunanan pointed out that this is something most Pinoys would do out of courtesy, especially if it was a woman who asked for help:

While I admire this man for his selflessness, asking him if there was anyone who could help her change her tire was kinda like putting him “on the spot”. Most pinoys would do this out of “hiya”, lalo na babae ang humingi ng tulong. Moral of the story: Everyone (PWDs and seniors aside)…regardless of gender…should be able to replace a flat tire without asking for help. If you cant or arent prepared to do that and the other dirty work that comes with responsible car ownership, dont drive.

Tates Estrella Cannon compared Tortosa to a guard in Caltex SLEX who went into hiding after seeing a similar situation. The husband had a heart condition and they even had a baby inside:

I admire him! I remember the guard in shell or is it caltex, in SLEX northbound coming from sta. Rosa exit. When he was awaken from his sleep on his chair and saw us needing assistance with our tire, he immediately hid inside.. Something punctured our tire going to gas station that night.. My husband has a heart condition and Hubby wouldn’t want me to leave our baby inside so I can hold the flashlight. We didn’t even ask him for help and he made himself invisible faster than flash…. So we need more people like S/G Tortosa.
