You know what the tablet market needs? Another 11-inch slab with a mid range chip. TECNO clearly thinks so, because the MEGAPAD 2 has arrived in the Philippines, and it is bringing a free keyboard to the party.
At PHP 16,999 for the base model, it sits in the most crowded segment in the entire tablet market. The pitch: an 11-inch 2.5K eye care display, 4G LTE, AI learning tools, and a keyboard included in the box.
We went hands on with the unit, went through TECNO’s official training deck, and dug into the specs so you do not have to. Spoiler: the box lies about the RAM, and the AI can put a dog in the wrong seat. More on both below.
The 30 second verdict
The TECNO MEGAPAD 2 is a solid everyday tablet that wins on display, connectivity, and bundle value, not raw performance. If you want a big screen for learning, streaming, and light productivity, it delivers.
The MediaTek Helio G99 is a proven chip, but it is not a speed demon. Gamers and power users should look elsewhere, and the official comparison table further down will show you exactly where it stands.
For students and casual users, the free keyboard, the LTE, and the 2.5K screen make it a genuinely interesting deal.
Display: the best part of the tablet
The MEGAPAD 2 rocks an 11-inch IPS panel with a 2560 x 1600 resolution, which TECNO markets as 2.5K. It runs at 90Hz, which is smoother than the standard 60Hz but not flagship 120Hz territory.
TECNO calls it an eye care display, with 550 nits of brightness and TUV Rheinland certification for flicker free and low blue light. In practice, that means it is bright enough for indoor use and easy on the eyes during long reading sessions.
One honest caveat from hands on time: the viewing angles are not the best. If you watch from the side, the screen gets noticeably dimmer. Watch it straight on, and it is a great panel.
The body is a 6.6mm ultra thin full metal chassis, which the training deck proudly points out is the slimmest in its class. It feels genuinely premium in the hand.
Performance: good enough, with a labeling scandal
Under the hood is the MediaTek Helio G99, branded MT8781, an octa core chip with 2x Cortex-A76 cores at 2.2GHz and 6x Cortex-A55 cores at 2.0GHz. It is the same chip powering a wave of budget tablets.
For streaming, browsing, video calls, and light productivity, it is perfectly smooth. For gaming, it will run most titles at medium settings, and Game Space helps with resource allocation and call rejection while you play.
Now, about the RAM. The box claims 16GB of memory, described as 8GB physical plus 8GB extended. Power the device on, and the system reports 6GB of physical memory and 128GB of storage.
That printed claim of eight gigabytes of physical memory is simply not true on this unit. The device has what it has, and the 6GB + 128GB model is what retails at PHP 16,999.
LTE: the surprise hero
Here is the thing that actually sets the MEGAPAD 2 apart: it comes with 4G LTE, and there is no Wi Fi only variant at all. Every MEGAPAD 2 has mobile connectivity built in.
The training deck’s sales pitch is honest about why this matters: spotty Wi Fi is a real struggle, and a tablet that never needs a hotspot is a tablet that works anywhere. Meetings, commutes, cafés, done.
The SIM tray takes a single nano SIM plus a microSD card that expands storage up to 2TB. That is a serious amount of offline content.
Software and AI: the good, the weird, and the dog
The MEGAPAD 2 runs HiOS 16 on Android 16, and TECNO loaded it with AI features. There is Ella, the voice assistant, plus AI Translation with lifetime free usage and no ads, which supports offline use in 30 languages.
Students get LearnUp, a free learning hub with thousands of K-12 lessons, plus a Learning Center with 30,000 plus lessons, songs, and cartoons. The AI Drawing Board turns sketches into generated art in five styles.
There is also HiTutor, a Gen AI tutor, and here is where it gets funny. Ask it for a story, and it happily narrates.
The problem: you cannot pause the text to speech, and it will not stop talking until it finishes. The text to speech engine simply is not that great.
And the AI image generator? Asked to create a picture of a person driving a car with a dog in the back seat, it put the dog in the front seat. It got it wrong, and it was funny to watch.
AI is clearly still learning, and apparently so are the dogs.
Audio: quad speakers that actually bang
The MEGAPAD 2 has a quad speaker system with DTS tuning, and this is the rare budget tablet where the audio is a genuine highlight.
The speakers fill a room, they get properly loud, and they have surprising punch. The training deck even compares the setup favorably against the Samsung Galaxy Tab A9, and honestly, that checks out.
Just keep the volume down, because these things can wake the whole household.
Note: there is no 3.5mm headphone jack. The ultra thin 6.6mm body left no room for it, so wireless audio is the way forward here. Budget for a pair of Bluetooth earbuds.
Battery, cameras, and the orange button
The 8,200mAh battery is a big cell for an 11-inch tablet, with up to 18W charging and a 74 day standby claim. It should easily push past a full day of mixed use.
Cameras are modest: an 8MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera, both fine for document scanning and video calls, nothing more. One of the rear lenses is cosmetic, so do not count on depth tricks.
Then there is the mystery orange button on the side. It mutes and unmutes the device, and a long press opens the mute menu.
That is it. It is not a custom AI button, just a mute switch wearing a disguise.
One more hands on gripe: the pre installed screen protector is a smudge magnet. Give this to a kid and it will be filthy within a day. The sticker that ships on the screen is just not up to the job.
The keyboard: the actual best accessory
The bundled Bluetooth keyboard is not a cheap afterthought. It doubles as a protective case and a stand, has a USB Type-C charging port, and the back is slightly curved so it feels good to hold.
The finish is the highlight: it matches the slate gray panel, and the orange accent picks up the mute button. It is genuinely nice to type on, and it is included in the box, which is the whole point.
There is even a spot to slide in a stylus if you buy the MEGA Pencil separately. Note, however, that the box also includes an 18W charger, which is fine, just not the best quality ever shipped in a tablet box.

A few notes on this table. The extended RAM is virtual, drawn from storage, so the 16GB and 12GB marketing numbers are not physical RAM. The manufacturer lists 547g, which is heavier than some early spec sheets claimed, so trust the deck.
The 13 month warranty is also a nice touch in a market where 12 months is the norm. TECNO is giving you a free month, which is technically a refund of nothing, but we will take it.
Who should buy the MEGAPAD 2
Students get the most value here. The eye care display, the free LearnUp resources, the AI tutor, the free keyboard, and the microSD expansion make it a homework machine with a typing solution included.
People who travel or commute get a real bonus: the LTE means no hunting for Wi Fi, and the 74 day standby means it is ready when you need it. That is the “Keep Going Anywhere” pitch, and it is legitimate.
Gamers and power users should skip it. The Helio G99 is not built for heavy gaming, and the OPPO Pad SE charges faster if that matters to you.
The bottom line
The TECNO MEGAPAD 2 is a genuinely good budget tablet that competes on value rather than raw power. The 2.5K eye care display is excellent for the price, the quad speakers are a highlight, and the free keyboard is a real differentiator.
It is not the fastest tablet in its class, the box overstates the RAM, the AI puts dogs in the wrong seat, and the screen protector is a fingerprint factory. But for students and everyday users, it is one of the smartest buys in the segment right now.
