HSINCHU, Taiwan (August 2026) — Keeping a luxury island resort running smoothly requires more than just beautiful beaches; it demands a reliable internet connection for the people working behind the scenes. At the JW Marriott Maldives Resort & Spa, providing consistent coverage across staff housing spread over five residential blocks was a major challenge due to metal-panel walls blocking signals.
To solve this, the resort overhauled its wireless setup by moving away from traditional corridor-mounted equipment and installing hardware exactly where connectivity mattered most.
Bringing internet to paradise
The new setup features 95 NWA90AX PRO indoor access points placed directly inside staff rooms to ensure strong room-level coverage. For outdoor areas like gardens and communal spaces, NWA55AXE outdoor access points were added to bridge the gaps.
Supporting this setup are GS1920-24HPv2 smart managed switches installed across each accommodation block. These switches create a stable, high-capacity backbone, using power-over-Ethernet capabilities to cut down on complicated cabling across multiple buildings.
The entire system is handled through the Zyxel Nebula cloud management platform. This interface gives the IT team a single view of the network, allowing for centralized monitoring and remote management. The platform uses artificial intelligence to automatically detect and diagnose wireless issues before they can disrupt daily operations.
Making IT operations simpler
Dilanka Adikari, senior IT specialist at JW Marriott Maldives Resort & Spa, said the team needed a high-quality solution at an affordable price to give associates a strong internet experience. Adikari noted that the cloud networking solution made managing all access points, switches, and configurations simple, while improving overall network reliability.
Gary Chen, emerging markets head at Zyxel Networks, pointed out that reliable connectivity for hospitality staff is often ignored, even though it is just as demanding as guest networks. Chen mentioned that while guests are on holiday, the network never is, and this project proves that even thick walls cannot stop a properly designed network.
