CALOOCAN, Philippines (Jul 2026) – Most people automatically turn away when faced with something uncomfortable, but the MakiSining Art Group is asking Pinoy visitors to do the exact opposite in their latest exhibition, "Soursplash".
Turning disgust into art
Running from July 23 to Sept. 1, 2026, “Soursplash” features works from 15 active members and probationary artists of the MakiSining collective. Hosted at the Chua King Ha Galleries on the 5th floor of the Tan Yan Kee Academic Building at UE Caloocan, the show tackles how a basic gut reaction like disgust evolves into a complex social filter. It explores how society uses fear and recoil to decide what is pure, what is alien, and who gets to belong.
Crossroads of mentorship and community
The exhibition is presented as part of the UE College of Fine Arts, Architecture and Design (CFAD) Sangang-Daan (Crossroads) series. The initiative connects UE CFAD students with alumni, local creative groups, and the broader community to foster mentorship and creative partnerships.
Formed in 2011 in Los Baños, Laguna, MakiSining brings together visual artists, scientists, and cultural workers for interdisciplinary collaboration. As the primary display space for the campus, the Chua King Ha Galleries serve as a meeting point where emerging Pinoy talent and established artistic traditions connect.
