Cherry saved herself for marriage her whole life, only to discover on her wedding night that her brand-new husband had already been cheating. That blunt setup is the engine of ‘Saving Cherry’, the Regal Entertainment comedy now playing in over 160 cinemas nationwide and one of the most talked-about Filipino releases of the season.

The raucous road-trip film also marks a milestone for Kapuso actress Mikee Quintos, who appears in her first-ever theatrical movie. During a block screening shown on Unang Hirit, she got emotional seeing herself on the big screen and said the shoot felt like an experience “for the books”. “As an artist who is in love with the craft of acting itself, I think I want to take movies seriously,” Quintos said. “I really hope this is the first of many.”

What ‘Saving Cherry’ is about

Directed by Ivan Andrew Payawal, the film follows a young bride who, after the betrayal on her wedding night, decides her carefully guarded purity was pointless and sets off on a chaotic quest to find a man to sleep with. The premise fuels relentless, raucous humor, but reviewers note the movie also treats themes of infidelity, female autonomy, and reclaiming one’s body with surprising sincerity. Fair warning: this is an adults-only comedy that leans into racy jokes and frank talk about sex, so it is not one for the whole family.

The cast

Cast In the film
Barbie Forteza Cherry, the betrayed bride who goes on the quest
Khalil Ramos Jude, the cheating husband
Mika Salamanca, AC Bonifacio, Sassa Gurl, Mikee Quintos Cherry’s barkada along for the ride

The spotlight belongs to Forteza, whom the actress herself has called her most mature role yet. Critics have described her performance as gloriously unhinged, praising how she swings from physical comedy to genuine heartbreak. Her barkada, rounded out by content creators and Kapuso stars, gives the ensemble its Gen-Z energy.

Why it matters

‘Saving Cherry’ arrives as Filipino theatrical releases keep proving local audiences will turn out for homegrown stories. It is also Regal Entertainment’s latest swing at big-screen comedy, following the longevity of franchises like Shake, Rattle and Roll, and it puts a female-led, unabashedly adult story front and center in Philippine cinemas.
