The Philippines’ biggest bank is missing from both tap-to-pay revolutions. BDO Unibank is on neither Apple Pay’s launch lineup nor Google Wallet’s roster, and BDO clients trying to add their cards are hitting a wall.

Where BDO stands

Apple Pay launched August 3 with Chinabank, GoTyme, Metrobank, and UnionBank, per InsiderPH. Google Wallet went live in late 2025 with a broad bank lineup that included GCash, Maya, and GoTyme, and BPI later confirmed it was live on Google Pay too. BDO has not announced support for either service, and its cards are not addable today.

Why the absence stands out

BDO is the country’s largest bank by assets, which makes its absence the loudest gap in both wallets. The twist: BDO is hardly asleep on digital. BDO Pay was just named the Philippines’ Best Digital Wallet at The Asian Banker Philippine Awards 2026, per YugaTech, a sign the bank is betting on its own app rather than third-party wallets.

4 ways BDO clients can tap today

First, BDO Pay itself handles QR payments, transfers, and bills in one app. Second, GCash and Maya accept BDO-linked cash-ins and cover QR payments everywhere. Third, a GoTyme account gets you full Apple Pay and Google Wallet support in minutes. Fourth, every BDO debit and credit card already taps directly on contactless terminals, no wallet needed. We mapped the trade-offs in our contactless guide and the wallet caps in the GCash limits matrix.

The bottom line

BDO is not blocking its customers from tap-to-pay; it just wants them inside its own app. Watch for a Q4 Apple Pay wave, and until then, BDO Pay plus a contactless card covers most daily payments.
