MAKATI, Philippines – PLDT SME Nation has boldly declared the entire month of July as ‘Small Business Month’, a move that aims to push local businesses forward by harnessing the power of technology and the Internet.

Partnering with the Philippine Retailers Association, Go Negosyo, PNB, and Google, the telecommunications giant is providing small businesses with tools and information to push more businesses online.

This includes activities such as the Empowering the Small Business! Caravan, a forum designed to educate and bring together entrepreneurs and supercharge their businesses.

A win-win scenario

As a telecommunications company and technology services provider, pushing businesses online is a win-win scenario for PLDT and its subsidiaries ePLDT, Smart Communications, and Sun Cellular.

“The way we do business today cuts across brick and mortar establishments and mobile and online platforms. Because of this our customers are more empowered in their respective markets,” says Eric Alberto, PLDT Executive Vice President and ePLDT President and CEO.

“As the country’s leading enterprise technology services provider, we have taken it upon us to ensure that the country’s small businesses are ready for this new age,” Alberto adds.

PLDT SME Nation is set to unveil The Bozz Awards, the digital counterpart of the long-running MVP Bossing Awards, which aims to recognize the role of creative, hardworking and inspiring Filipino entrepreneurs.

The Bozz Awards aims to honor the achievements and potential of young, tech-savvy entrepreneurs aged 40 and below.

With the activity, PLDT hopes to encourage more Filipinos to become their own boss by becoming entrepreneurs themselves.

Leveraging on the power of the Internet and social media, nominations and voting for The Bozz Awards will be done online.

“There’s no way to go but digital,” PLDT First Vice President and Head of SME Business Kat Luna-Abelarde said. “Customers are mobile and they go online to do just about everything – buy, read reviews, air their concerns, advocate a brand. The real and virtual worlds are more converged, now more than ever. With the launch of the Small Business Month, we want them to be enablers by providing them with the relevant tools and services to thrive as they embrace the digital revolution.”
