SENTX 2019: Bridging S&T and Journalism [event]


SENTINEL, the Science and Technology Editors’ League of the Philippines, will hold SENTX 2019: Contextualizing Science Journalism in the Philippine Setting, a two-day seminar workshop, at the NCPAG Assembly Hall, University of the Philippines Diliman on September 7-8, 2019 (Saturday to Sunday).

As the first and only alliance of science and technology (S&T)-oriented high school and college publications, SENTINEL aims to unite said publications for the development of local S&T and for genuine industrialization. In line with this, SENTX 2019 will feature:

  • Discussions and activities on the proper orientation of viewing science journalism as a transformative force in nation-building
  • Workshops on science journalism
  • Talks on the current state of S&T in the Philippine setting

Among the various speakers are Mikael Francisco, Editor-in-Chief of Flipscience.net, Giovanni Tapang, Dean of the College of Science in UP Diliman, Maria Diosa Labiste, PhD, from the Department of Journalism in UP Diliman, John Reczon Calay, former Managing Editor of the Philippine Collegian, and more!

This event is open to all high school and college students. Registration fee is PHP 500 for public schools and Php 750 for private schools without accommodations and food. Php 150 will be added to include food, and Php 800 for accommodations. The registration fees must be paid in full before accommodations are confirmed.

Deadline for online registration at http://www.tinyurl.com/SENTX2019SignUpForm is on August 15, 2019 while the deadline for payment is on August 22, 2019. Interested participants can still register on the event day itself, but subject to the availability of slots.
