McDonald’s announced the crossover on Aug 31, revealing that the SpongeBob x One Piece Happy Meal arrives at participating U.S. restaurants Sept 15 while supplies last. The campaign is part of a worldwide rollout spanning dozens of countries and regions, with the United States among the confirmed markets.
“We’ve truly entered the great Happy Meal era,” McDonald’s wrote on its official social media, adding that the two seafaring franchises meet for “an unforgettable voyage packed with friendship, adventure, and imagination.”
The toys: Bikini Bottom as the Straw Hat crew
The Happy Meal comes with one of 15 exclusive collectible toys that reimagine Bikini Bottom’s characters as the legendary Straw Hat crew from One Piece. SpongeBob takes on Monkey D. Luffy’s straw hat, Patrick and Squidward get their own pirate makeovers, and Mr. Krabs and the rest of the gang join the voyage.

A growing McDonald’s anime push
The crossover continues McDonald’s run of pop-culture mashups. Earlier this month the chain dropped a Hello Kitty x Godzilla dual-collab Happy Meal with eight toys. Filipino fans of the two franchises have also seen SpongeBob crossovers before, from Sky’s SpongeBob birthday bash to its Nickelodeon Kamp Koral push.
