Native language storytelling event successfully returns to UST

Last January 21, the first-ever treasure language storytelling event in the Philippines and in Asia returned!

The University of Santo Tomas and the UST English Language Studies renews “WYKK” for its second year. This year’s theme was all about enchanting Philippine folklores in line with its tagline, “Embracing Languages Through Enchanting Stories”.

The event featured a few timeless Philippine tales like the legend of Maria Cristina falls from Iligan and the legend of Ibalon from Bicol. Storytellers told these stories of fiction and lore in their mother tongue (e.g. Chavacano, Bikolano) before translating them to English.

The event also aimed to recognize the endangered and dying languages in the Philippines through storytelling and celebrating cultures.

Check out more about their event via https://www.facebook.com/wykk2020/ or through their official hashtags #WYKK2020 #KuwentoNgWikaKo on all social media platforms.
