Tour of Luzon Returns: HUAWEI and MPTC Bring Back Historic Philippine Cycling Race

MANILA, Philippines (Apr 25) – The Tour of Luzon cycling race, a historic event in Philippine sports, is making a comeback in 2025. This revival is thanks to a partnership between HUAWEI, Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), and DuckWorld PH.

The original race began in 1955 and was a significant event in Asian cycling history. Its return aims to bring back national pride and promote wellness through the sport.

HUAWEI, known globally for its technology like smartphones and wearable devices, is supporting the event as part of its focus on community well-being and connecting technology with cultural events. The company highlights its wearable tech, like the HUAWEI GT 5 Series watches, which include features for tracking over 100 sports, including cycling.

The partnership shows how technology can help connect communities and support athletes. HUAWEI is also working with the MPT DriveHub Cycling Team to use smart technology during the race.

The Tour of Luzon 2025 race course covers 1,050 kilometers over 8 days. It starts at the historic San Agustin Church of Paoay in Laoag City and finishes in Baguio City at Camp John Hay. The route passes through 7 provinces across North and Central Luzon.

Seventeen cycling teams will compete. This includes 12 premier Philippine teams, such as the MPT DriveHub Cycling Team. There are also 5 international teams participating: CCN Factory HK from Hong Kong, Malaysia Pro Cycling, Bryton Racing Team from Taiwan, and Gapyeong Cycling Team from South Korea. A total of 119 cyclists will race, with 7 riders on each team.

Winners will receive significant prizes. The champion team gets the Perpetual Trophy and PHP 1 million cash. The Individual Champion receives a trophy, podium jersey, PHP 500,000 cash, and a 3 day, 2 night suite stay at Camp John Hay Hotels.

Other titles include the Eagle of the Mountain for the winner of the final uphill stage in Baguio City, Best Young Rider, and Sprint King. These winners will receive trophies and podium jerseys. The top rider in the Stage Individual Classification and the Most Combative Rider will also be recognized with podium jerseys.
