Apple has just seeded iOS 27 beta 8 to developers, with the public beta following hours later, and it brings the biggest change of this year’s iPhone update one step closer: the rebuilt Siri AI assistant. The finished version lands for everyone in September.
What’s new in iOS 27 beta 8
This build arrives near the end of Apple’s summer test cycle, so it is mostly a polish and bug-fix release. It refines the Liquid Glass design introduced last year, adds a new transparency slider for adjusting the system UI, and improves app launches, Photos loading and Wi-Fi to cellular switching. Custom equalizers for wireless earbuds and easier Apple Pay card switching are also part of the package.
| Area | What changed in iOS 27 |
|---|---|
| Siri AI | Rebuilt assistant with richer conversations and on-screen awareness |
| Visual Intelligence | New Siri mode in the Camera app |
| Design | Liquid Glass transparency slider |
| Performance | Faster app launches, Photos loading, AirDrop and Wi-Fi switching |
| Other | Custom AirPods EQ, easier Apple Pay card switching, AI wallpaper |
Siri AI is the headline feature
The marquee addition is Siri AI, Apple’s rebuilt assistant powered by the next generation of Apple Intelligence and new Apple Foundation Models. It handles richer conversations, remembers personal context, and adds broader world knowledge, on-screen awareness and deeper app actions. On the iPhone, Siri AI gets a new visual experience tied to the Dynamic Island plus a dedicated Siri app that keeps conversations across devices. We detailed the full Siri and Apple Intelligence upgrade at WWDC26 earlier this year.
Apple Intelligence is also expanding across Photos, Safari, Passwords, Mail, Messages, Phone and Shortcuts, with some capabilities running directly on-device and others using Private Cloud Compute.
How to install the iOS 27 beta
If you’re enrolled in the Apple Developer Program, open Settings, tap General, then Software Update, select Beta Updates and choose the iOS 27 Developer Beta. Today’s developer build will likely become public beta 6, and it is now also rolling out to public beta testers. As always, back up your device before running unfinished software.
When does iOS 27 ship
The final version arrives in the next few weeks, as a free download for supported iPhones. With Apple’s September 9 iPhone event confirmed, expect the full rollout to land around the new hardware launch.
