The little Mac that everyone recommends to first-time buyers just picked up a big personality change. The new Mac mini with the M6 chip is now listed at PHP 64,990 on Apple’s own Philippine store, and the entry price of Apple’s smallest desktop has climbed 50 percent in two years. Here is what you actually get for the new number, and whether the budget-Mac pitch still holds.
Apple just made its mini a lot smarter
Apple announced the new Mac mini on August 25, Cupertino time, headlined by the all-new M6 chip and the stronger M5 Pro. Pre-orders opened the same day across 30 countries and regions, with units landing in stores and on doorsteps starting September 22.
The M6 brings a 12-core CPU, a 12-core GPU with Neural Accelerators in every core for the first time on Mac mini, and a Dual 16-core Neural Engine. Apple’s own benchmarks claim up to 4x faster AI performance and double the graphics speed of the M4 model, alongside the fastest single-threaded CPU performance the company has ever shipped. Standard memory is 16GB, configurable to 32GB, with bandwidth up to 170GB/s.
The M5 Pro version pushes to an 18-core CPU and a 20-core GPU with third-generation ray tracing, supports up to 64GB of unified memory at 307GB/s, and swaps in Thunderbolt 5. That last one enables a trick aimed squarely at the AI crowd: clustering several Mac minis together to run larger models entirely on device.
Mac mini M6 vs M5 Pro: specs side by side
Both models share the same ultracompact chassis and a full connectivity refresh: Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and 2.5Gb Ethernet standard with a 10Gb option. The front keeps two USB-C ports and a headphone jack, and both gain genlock support over USB-C for synchronizing displays and cameras, including the iPhone 17 Pro. Software comes via macOS 27 Golden Gate, due as a free update this fall with the much-delayed Siri AI on board.

One caveat before you ready the wallet: the store currently tells visitors to “check back later for availability,” so the listed prices are not yet live purchases in the Philippines. Pre-orders are processing in the US and other launch markets, with wider availability beginning September 22.
As a reference point, $899 converts to roughly PHP 55,400 at the prevailing rate of about PHP 61.6 per dollar, so the official local tag carries the usual PH pricing premium on top of direct conversion.
Why the cheapest Mac got 50 percent more expensive
The sticker shock has receipts. When the M4-generation Mac mini launched in October 2024, it started at just $599, the price that made it the default answer to “what Mac should I buy on a budget.”
In May 2026, Apple discontinued that 256GB entry configuration, pushing the floor to $799, with Tim Cook warning that memory costs would keep climbing through the rest of the year. The 256GB option later returned to the lineup, but the $599 era did not.
The M6 mini’s $899 starting point is therefore $100 above where the old model ended, and a full $300 above its 2024 debut. You are getting substantially more computer for it, with Apple measuring up to 4.8x faster LLM prompt processing than M4 in LM Studio. But the days of calling the Mac mini an impulse purchase are clearly over.
Should you still buy the little Mac?
- Go M6 at PHP 64,990 if: you want the cheapest new door into the Mac ecosystem, a home-office desktop that sips power, or a local-AI box for tinkering with on-device models.
- Go M5 Pro at PHP 119,990 to PHP 132,990 if: you cut video, compile code, or run larger local models; Thunderbolt 5 clustering makes the pro tier genuinely interesting for AI work.

The verdict: the Mac mini M6 is the most capable small desktop Apple has ever shipped, and still the least expensive way into macOS. It is simply no longer a bargain, and buyers who felt priced out this week should watch for PH stock near September 22 and the inevitable launch promos.
