MANILA, Philippines (Aug. 2026) – Online scammers are getting smarter, and relying solely on one-time passwords (OTPs) is no longer enough to keep digital accounts safe for Pinoy users. To tackle this growing problem, Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) and PLDT Enterprise are expanding their digital security toolkit with SmartSafe NetIdentity, a solution powered by newly GSMA-certified network capabilities.
Smart recently secured international GSMA Certification for its SIM Swap and Device Swap APIs, which serve as the core technology behind SmartSafe NetIdentity under the PLDT Enterprise SmartSafe suite.
Checking the signals behind every login
When a fraudster tries to steal an account, they often transfer the target’s phone number to a new SIM card or insert the SIM into a different device. The SIM Swap API checks for recent SIM card replacement activity on Smart’s network, while the Device Swap API detects if a SIM card has been moved to a new physical device.
By analyzing these network-level signals, businesses can spot suspicious account takeovers or unauthorized logins before a transaction goes through. This gives enterprises a stronger layer of verification beyond traditional SMS codes without creating extra hassle for legitimate customers.
Safer digital journeys for everyday apps
The technology is built specifically for high-risk digital sectors where trust is critical, including banking, fintech, e-commerce, and online gaming. Banks can use these signals to secure fund transfers, while e-commerce platforms and gaming apps can better protect buyer accounts and user profiles.

Building on globally certified standards
This milestone reinforces Smart’s position as the first Philippine telco to adopt GSMA Open Gateway standards. The new certifications build on Smart’s previous recognitions for its Number Verification and RoamStatus APIs.
Julian Gorman, Head of Asia Pacific at GSMA, highlighted that Smart’s certification demonstrates a clear commitment to delivering standards-compliant API services that foster safer digital ecosystems.
