MANILA, Philippines (Aug 2026) – What happens when a slow, melancholic 2016 acoustic song about heartbreak gets a complete funk reboot? Fast-rising duo Easy Freak turned an old post-breakup track written years ago into a vibrant pop-funk anthem titled “Only Like You Do,” kicking off the rollout for their upcoming sophomore album, ‘The Touch.’
Releasing on December 11 via Ultra Records, ‘The Touch’ marks a major milestone for duo members Dom Hurd and Jude Kendrick Ganasen. After nearly a decade of producing music together, the group has fully locked into their signature sound by leaning heavily into live instrumentation and retro influences.
From acoustic sorrow to pure groove
The lead single “Only Like You Do” originally started back in 2016 as a slow, sad guitar song written after a breakup. The duo resurrected the track by changing its time signature, speeding up the tempo, and adding thick funk grooves. The track sets the tone for a four-single campaign, where each release comes paired with a music video heavily inspired by 70s and 80s nostalgia.
Lush live instruments and retro inspiration
Listeners can expect a much more organic sound throughout the record. Easy Freak introduced live string sections, live horns, and full live drums into their recording process for the very first time. The album draws creative inspiration from classic icons like Sade, Michael Jackson, CHIC, and Prince.
According to the duo, ‘The Touch’ captures the full emotional arc of relationships, moving from the excitement of new love to the quiet grace found after heartbreak.
Availability and pre-orders
“Only Like You Do” is currently available on all major streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube. Pinoy fans can pre-order and pre-save ‘The Touch’ ahead of its official drop on December 11.
