MANILA, Philippines (Aug 2026) — Pinoy consumers can now leave their physical wallets at home, because Apple Pay is finally available for Mastercard cardholders. This long-awaited integration allows local users to make secure and private purchases directly from their favorite Apple devices.

The feature works across the iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, and Mac, providing an alternative to traditional plastic cards and cash.

How it works

Making a payment in a store requires just a few movements. Users simply double-click the side button of their iPhone or Apple Watch, authenticate using Face ID, Touch ID, or a device passcode, and hold the device near the contactless payment terminal. The system is widely accepted at grocery stores, pharmacies, restaurants, coffee shops, and various retail outlets nationwide.

The technology can also be used for Online purchases within mobile applications or on the web. This eliminates the need to manually create accounts, type out shipping details, or repeatedly enter credit card numbers.

Built-in privacy and security

Security remains central to the platform. Mastercard explained that actual credit or debit card numbers are never stored on the physical device or on Apple servers. Instead, a unique Device Account Number is generated, encrypted, and safely isolated within the Secure Element, a specialized, industry-standard certified chip inside the device. Furthermore, each transaction is validated using a one-time unique dynamic security code.

According to Jason Crasto, country manager of Mastercard in the Philippines, the launch brings secure and convenient payment experiences to local consumers. He noted that as digital adoption accelerates across the region, the company remains excited to connect people with their preferred payment choices and the peace of mind they need.

Setting up the wallet

Setting up the feature takes less than a minute. Users can open the Wallet app on their iPhone, tap the plus symbol, and follow the step-by-step instructions to link their Mastercard credit or debit cards. Once added to an iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, or Mac, the service can be used immediately. Cardholders will continue to receive all existing rewards and benefits associated with their accounts.
