What happens when someone does the “Pabebe wave” in It’s Showtime?
Well, if you were able to watch the grand finals of It’s Showtime Clash of Celebrities, I’m sure that you were able to feel the awkwardness in Vice Ganda and Billy Crawford’s faces when one of the segment’s judge Arnel Pineda did Yaya Dub’s famous Pabebe wave.
When Arnel did the gesture, Vice Ganda immediately asked him to comment directly so that it won’t be a big deal.
Meanwhile, The Journey frontman Arnel impliedly apologized in It’s Showtime in Twitter.
“Didnt mean to start something..i apologize..it was done with no malice at all..,” he said.
The Pabebe Wave is a signature gesture that originates from Eat Bulaga’s AlDub segment, a direct competitor of It’s Showtime.
At the height of AlDub’s success, It’s Showtime came up with Pastillas Girl and the search for Mr Pastillas to compete for social media attention.
The product of social media, Maine Mendoza (Yaya Dub) and Angelica Yap (Pastillas Girl) are often compared with one another.
In the past, the two shows have clashed in ratings and social media, the biggest being the It’s Showtime Kapamilya Day vs Eat Bulaga’s National Pabebe Wave Day, where Eat Bulaga’s ratings came up on top.
Arnel served as one of the judges together with Isay Alvarez and Ruel Santiago in Grand finals of Clash of Celebrities where Jay-r was hailed champion.
